On Sliding Doors
To maximize small areas, like doorways and closets, sliding doors are the best bet. With the bypass door variety, two panels can slip past each other. For wide closets bypass doors are commonly installed.
If bypass doors jam, derail or do not close tightly, the problem is usually in the hardware. Look at the roller brackets before anything else. Wiggle the brackets one at a time. Any slack can be corrected by tightening the screws. More tips, advice and news on garage doors can be found at automatic garage door.
Separate the whole door if you can’t find the slack bracket. Removing the guides comes first. Loosen the screws, and put the guides to a side. Hardware stores sell substitutes for any wrecked guides. Some metal guides can be unbent with pliers.
Firmly get a hold of one side of the outer door, while someone helps with the other side. In tandem, push the bottom away from the inside of the door. In concert, apply pressure upward. Rest the door against a wall that’s close.
The same procedures apply to the second door. If you cannot remove a bypass door by the method described, inspect the track closely for openings in the sides of the channels. A liberated door facilitates the screw tightening bit with loose brackets. All that’s needed for widened screw openings are bigger screws. When trying to put a door in place, transpose the disconnection process. The doors should not be uneven when hung. Fix in place the floor guides once more, making sure that the doors are free to glide past each other. The sorts of sliding door with panels that fold and slide along a single overhead rail are called bifold or accordion doors. Although some doors hang from roller brackets, most are attached by short spindles, flanged so they are held inside the channel.
Take off the door by getting the spindles off and then lifting the door at the edge where the pins are. Tilt the bottom up from the floor at the same time. Before reinstalling the door, use a cloth to wipe the spindles clean. Instructions also apply to the channel interior.
